Heyy pals! I am a third-year computer science and philosophy student. I joined Lions because I love volunteering, building community, and sharing time with my friends(oh yeah, that includes you!!) When I am not doing my homework, I really enjoy rock climbing and whitewater rafting. I am also a part-time guide at Outdoor Adventure! So, if you ever want to go on an adventure or simply just want to chill in the river with me, feel free to contact me. I am also a movie nerd. I enjoy watching literally every kind of movie, thrilling, sci-fi, action, romance. Let me know if you need some movie recommendations. I am constantly debating what my favorite movie is. Some movies that made it to the semi-finals include Nolan's “Interstellar”, Chazelle’s “LA LA Land”, and Curtis’ “About Time.” If you have better ones that you want me to know, I have some wild cards left. Anyway, I am super excited for this year’s event and finally, meet all of you in person!

Edward Smith

My name is Ed Smith and I am a Lions Mentor for the Club and chairman of the District 4C-5 committee “Friends of the Davis Aggies Lions Club”.

I am an Aggie too— Class of 1984. BA- Poly Sci major. Then off to law school -McGeorge School of Law-JD, Class of 1988. Our law firm has a branch office in Davis. Check us out at lawofficeinc.com. My wife Violet is also an Aggie, Class of 1977- Bio Sci major. Then off to medical school. She retired in 2017 after 31 years as a board certified Family Practice MD. We are the proud parents of Evan and Laurel. Evan is employed as an analyst at Instagram in SF and Laurel is a true Aggie with Soil Bourne Farms, a non-profit agricultural education foundation and working farm in Rancho Cordova.

I became a Lion in 1993 in Roseville. Over the years, I served most leadership positions with the club and various leadership positions at the District and state level as the Area 1 Student Speakers Contest Committee Representative and Student Speakers Foundation District Representative.

When the Davis Aggies Lions Club (DALC) was established, I knew I would get involved to help the club succeed. Our son was a college student at the time and his college a cappella group known as the Harmonics performed on campus with a number of other college a capella groups from various colleges hosted by the Davis Spokes. This annual concert was and is known as Hellacapella. I suggested that that this annual event could be part of an annual fundraiser event hosted by the DALC by selling tickets to the concert and hosting a “Lions Only” reception before and after the concert.

Hundreds of Lions in our District attend this annual a cappella music event performed by college students on campus while getting to know members of the DALC who hosted the food oriented reception.

Funds raised at this admin account fundraiser helped pay for DALC members to attend our District annual convention. This annual event helped the DALC feel like a part of our Lions extended family in our district.

I believe Lions college campus clubs are an important piece of the puzzle in terms growing LCI membership for the long term. Members of the DALC will graduate and move on and some will continue to serve our communities through collective action as members of Lions Clubs International. Our motto is “We Serve.”
